Dive into the dreamlike motion of Seal Swirl, a hand-pulled reduction linoprint that captures the elegance, curiosity, and sheer joy of a group of seals caught in a hypnotic spin of ocean currents. Each layer of colour was carved and printed with care, slowly revealing the seals' fluid forms as they glide through the water.
Created using the reduction method—a bold and irreversible printmaking process—this artwork is carved and printed in layers from a single lino block. With each new color, more of the block is cut away, meaning there’s no undo button, no second chances, and no reprints. It’s a slow and deliberate dance between risk and reward, where each layer reveals more of the final image while permanently removing the previous stage. The result? A truly limited edition print, impossible to recreate.

The print will be protected in a plastic sleeve and shipped in a rigid mailer.

Behind The Scenes

Rowan is committed to slow art and appreciates the joy and satisfaction that comes with working by hand. Rowan prints all of her original linoprints in the front sunroom of her house in Lewisham, Sydney. It is a small space (no room for a big press), but a happy and productive one, proving that you don't need a lot of room to make beautiful art.
